This paper deals with the development of a pedal operated millet thresher. Millet is one of the oldest human foods and believed to be the first domesticated cereal grain. Millets are important food for sustaining tribal population in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. Available evidence suggests that the mode of threshing finger millet is by traditional method like beating with sticks, rubbing and trampling finger-heads under bullocks feet or men feet. Traditional method is time wasting, energy sapping and often the grains are broken. Pedal operation is the most efficient way of utilizing power from human muscles. Keeping this thing in mind, pedal operated thresher for minor millets with spike-tooth type threshing cylinder was designed, fabricated and tested. This machine basically consists of four major components: feeding, threshing (consisting of threshing cylinder, concave and cylinder casing), cleaning and power transmission mechanism. The developed millet thresher has the ability to winnow the premature grains and leaves, which are often lighter, thus, leaving aside the massy grains that, will be collected. It is beneficial for farmers with reduced time of operation, reduction in breakage of the grains and separation of the stalk from the grains. The machine is economically viable can be used by farmers easily.Keywords

A field study was carried out during Kharif 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17 on thirty seven farmers field of Mohbhatta village of Simga block of the district Balodabazar-Bhatapara of Chhattisgarh state with size of trial is one acre each farmers to determine the impact of sowing techniques on yield of soybean under farmers’ conditions. Soybean is more water stress crop and at the time of germination sudden rainfall affects the crop. For this purpose, broad bed planting technology was introduced in the study area to compare it with the conventional sowing of soybean by flat bed methods. Six-row broad bed furrow machine was used to plant soybean having top bed width of 2.35 cm. Result showed that growth character (plant height, number of branches per plant and number of ischolar_main nodules per plant) and yield contributing character viz., number of pods per plant, seed yield weight per plant, seed index, seed yield,straw yield and harvest index (%) were found higher in broad bed furrow compared to the normal flat bed sowing which subsequently resulted in yield enhancement to the extent of 28.38 % for soyabean crop. The average yield in broad bed furrow method recorded 15.20 q ha-1. The B:C ratio was observed 2.05 due to drainage of excessive rain water from the fields and stronger plant anchorage on the beds. Similarly, 40 to 50% saving in irrigation water was recorded with broad bed furrow method of soybean in comparison with flood irrigation of controlled plots. Results indicated that broad bed furrow technology has a lot of potential to increase water productivity of soybean.Keywords

A survey on the pesticide usage pattern in okra conducted among 100 farmers in Tapi District of Gujarat during 2017-18, revealed a clear trend in greater use of newer molecules followed by organophosphorous insecticides. Changing trend in awareness among farmers on the use of stick for mixing, and of measuring cup, and not reusing the pesticide containers for household purpose was observed. However, farmer’s knowledge on recommended pesticide, dosage, safe harvest interval, label claim, personnel protection as well as spraying, proper disposal of pesticide container was lacking, but their knowledge was fair enough on time of application and storage, proper mixing and measuring of pesticides. To produce pesticide residue free okra fruit, it is essential to educate the farmers about proper preharvest interval, use of recommended pesticides, increased awareness about restricted and banned ones, and health hazards caused by misuse of pesticides.Keywords
